Moths
Moths ruin what is kept in storage: the clothes moth takes wool, fur, and knitwear, the pantry moth takes grains, flour, and dried fruit. The flying adults are only a signal: the damage is done by the larvae. Against moths there are sprays and glue traps.
About the pest
Adult moths do not eat at all — all the damage is done by the larvae. In clothes moths they chew tracks through wool, fur, and felt; in pantry moths they take over grains, flour, nuts, and dried fruit, leaving clumps and webbing behind. If a small moth is flying around the kitchen, check the food stores, not the wardrobe.
For retail and warehouses, the pantry moth means spoiled stock: one infested batch of grain can "colonize" the ones beside it. Early detection decides everything, and the main tool here is glue traps: they intercept the males and reveal the infestation itself before any visible damage.
Sprays are used where the moths live: wardrobes, shelving, and storerooms are treated once the clothes and the stores have been gone through. Infested food is thrown out — the treatment protects what is left and blocks reinfestation.
- Find and remove the source: the infested grain, garment, or felt — without that, products work at half strength.
- Keep grains in tightly closed jars and wool in garment bags.
- Place traps in wardrobes and storerooms — they also serve as an indicator of new arrivals.
- Use products strictly according to the instructions on the pack.

Adult moths do not feed — the tracks in a sweater and the clumps in the grain are left by the larvae.
