Fleas

Fleas arrive in the home with pets, from basements, and from rodents. They bite mainly around the legs, and the larvae develop in carpets, floor cracks, and pet bedding. The control format is insecticide sprays applied where the larvae and the adults live.

Fleas

About the pest

The flea is a jumping blood-feeder: in apartments it most often bites around the ankles and shins. The source of an infestation is pets, basements, or rodents. The adults live on the animal or in the apartment near its resting places, while the eggs and larvae develop in carpets, floor cracks, pet bedding, and upholstered furniture.

In apartment buildings, "basement" fleas are a story of their own: they move up into ground-floor apartments, and without treating the basement the problem comes back. For property management companies this means a steady stream of resident requests.

The main format is insecticide spray: floors, baseboards, the underside of carpets, and the animals' resting places are treated. Pets are treated in parallel with veterinary products — the apartment and the animal have to be treated at the same time, or the cycle starts over.

  • Treat not only the floor but also bedding, pet beds, and the lower parts of furniture.
  • Vacuum before treating: the vibration brings the larvae closer to the surface.
  • Time the treatment of the space and of the animal together.
  • Use products strictly according to the instructions on the pack.

Worth knowing

They bite around the legs

Bites around the ankles and shins are the typical sign of fleas in the room rather than on the animal.

Larvae in the carpets

Eggs and larvae develop in carpets, floor cracks, and bedding — that is exactly where the treatment is needed.

The basement source

In apartment buildings fleas often come from the basement — without treating it, the problem comes back.

Animal + space

The apartment and the pet have to be treated at the same time — otherwise the development cycle starts over.

Sprays

A spray is the "here and now" product: the insect dies seconds after contact, and the treated surface keeps protecting for up to 4 weeks. One line covers both indoor treatment and personal protection outdoors.
