Cockroaches in August: heat, humidity, and open doors
Late summer is the second seasonal peak, and in the city it's the more visible one.
Cockroaches do not overwinter in the usual sense: they remain active year-round in heated buildings. However, their numbers become noticeably greater in August, for several reasons.
Warmth and high humidity accelerate their development. Open doors, windows, and ventilation make it easier for them to move between premises. In residential buildings and food service businesses, seasonal activity adds to this: renovations, moves, and pest treatments by neighbors all force the population to relocate to places where it is left undisturbed.
One important point is often overlooked: cockroaches come not "from filth" but from neighboring premises. A perfectly clean apartment in a building with a shared problem is colonized just like any other — through risers, ventilation ducts, and cable channels.
Of the formats intended for living spaces, gels deliver the most predictable results: they work through a chain effect — an insect that eats the bait spreads the effect to others, including those that never reached the bait. Traps and bait stations are convenient where an enclosed format matters — in the kitchen, near food, and in homes with children and pets.
