Mosquito season readiness: a retail checklist

Mosquito season readiness: a retail checklist

A category where being two weeks late means missing the peak sales window.

The mosquito-control category follows its own rules. Demand does not build gradually — it begins with the first warm week and continues until the end of summer. A store that introduces the range in May has already missed a significant part of the season.

What should be checked before the beginning of April:

  • availability of the core formats on the shelf: fumigator mats and liquids, coils, aerosols, and sprays;
  • a complete range — a fumigator sells poorly without liquid refills, and vice versa;
  • seasonal merchandising: this is an impulse-purchase category that performs well near the entrance and checkout;
  • sufficient stock for the relevant lead times, so repeat orders arrive in time for peak demand.

It is also important to remember the difference between indoor and outdoor use. An electric fumigator with a mat or liquid is a solution for overnight protection in a room; a coil is designed for the porch, gazebo, or yard. Shoppers usually come in for one, but need both.
