Mat or liquid: what the difference really is
Two refills for one device, and most people choose between them at random.
An electric fumigator accepts both mats and bottles of liquid, and shoppers usually choose whichever is cheaper or simply catches their eye. The difference between them, however, is quite practical.
The mat is designed to last approximately one night — eight to ten hours of operation. It is convenient for travel, a weekend at the country house, or a hotel: it cannot spill, takes up little space, and requires nothing but the device. Mats are used one at a time, so if the fumigator runs every night, a pack is quickly used up.
The liquid is designed for extended use — depending on the bottle volume, it may last from thirty to sixty nights. For a home where the device is switched on every evening throughout the season, this is noticeably more convenient and economical: install it at the beginning of summer and forget about it until August.
There is also a practical detail that is rarely mentioned: you need to remember to replace a mat, and a used mat looks almost identical to a fresh one. A bottle makes this easier to monitor because the liquid level is visible.
Both formats have one thing in common: the device is designed for an enclosed room and works by gradually dispersing the product throughout the space. A balcony door left wide open negates the effect. Both formats are also available in unscented versions — an important consideration in bedrooms and for anyone sensitive to fragrances.
