August marks the start of rodent season

From mid-August, rodents start looking for a place to spend the winter — and find one on our premises.

Rodent problems do not peak in winter at all. The peak begins in August, when nights become cooler and food sources in the fields run out. From then on, rats and mice begin moving to places that offer warmth and food — warehouses, production areas, basements, stores, and private homes.

The practical conclusion is simple: if you start in September, when the signs are already obvious, you are chasing the problem. If you start in August, you are getting ahead of it.

What should be done before the end of summer:

  • inspect the perimeter and seal gaps, utility entry points, and ventilation openings;
  • clear overgrowth and debris along the walls — they provide cover and access routes;
  • put feed, grain, and food storage areas in order;
  • place bait stations around the perimeter before the rodents themselves appear.

Different formats suit different tasks. Soft dough baits work well indoors and remain attractive to rodents even when other food is available. Wax blocks are designed for outdoor use and damp conditions — they do not become waterlogged or lose their shape. Grain bait most closely resembles rodents' natural food and is therefore readily consumed even where grain is abundant.
