Mosquito season starts earlier than you think

The first mosquitoes appear long before the heat — and store shelves gear up for the season even earlier.

Mosquito season in central Russia is generally considered to begin with the first warm evenings, but preparations start in March. As soon as the snow melts and basements, flooded lowlands, and old water containers warm up, the first generation begins to hatch — always earlier than expected.

For retailers, this means one simple thing: the mosquito-control range must be on the shelf before shoppers start thinking about it. Demand in this category rises sharply and almost without warning — over the course of a single warm week.

The core range of formats remains the same year after year. Mats and liquids for electric fumigators provide overnight protection indoors; coils work outdoors — on the porch, in the gazebo, or around the property — while sprays and aerosols are needed when immediate protection is required.

One piece of advice that is rarely mentioned: start with the water, not the products. Any standing water on the property — a barrel, a bucket, a forgotten basin, or a clogged gutter — is a ready-made breeding site. Removing it is easier than dealing with the consequences later.
